I'm back from a bit of R&R and I noticed on the first day of my absence that the GM sugar beet issue raised its ugly head again. This time it appears that the court will prevent the planting of GM sugar beets next year. It's unclear from the article what assessment the court demands however whatever it is they are demanding it fast.

It's difficult to underestimate the importance of this issue since practical supply alternative in the short run will be world sugar plus the full 16.2 cent tariff.
